"What theory implies, quite simply, is that language acquisition, first or second, occurs when comprehension of real messages occurs, and when the acquirer is not 'on the defensive'... Language acquisition does not require extensive use of conscious grammatical rules, and does not require tedious drill.

How to Lower the Affective Filter in the Classroom
How to Lower the Affective Filter in the Classroom
In order to lower students' affective filters, teachers can provide a variety of activities and modes of instruction that will motivate students and reduce their anxiety levels. Some of the ways that teachers can lower the affective filter are as follows:- Provide both oral and written instructions when possible. This will double a student's chances of completing the task correctly, thereby lowering anxiety.
- Provide activities that are interesting and intriguing. For example, discussing world events, popular culture, or new technology can be great ways to draw students in.
- Provide materials that relate to the students' real lives when possible. For example, if the students are part of a specialized program such as an auto mechanic program or a cooking program, teachers can provide information that is related to these topics to keep students engaged.
- Allow for jokes and relaxed conversation at certain times
- Refrain from orally correcting students. Oral correction is generally not very effective, and it has the negative side-effect of creating a classroom climate where students are reluctant to share ideas and answers out of a fear of being wrong.
- Allow students to submit answers anonymously. They can write them on 3x5 cards or use whiteboard markers (or chalk) to put answers on the board. When this strategy is used, incorrect answers can be corrected without embarrassing the student who made the error. This allows each students to see that he/she is "normal" - each person in the class is growing and developing and still makes mistakes, just like they do. This strategy also helps give students a feeling of success because they can also be praised for the originality and content of their submissions.
- Reinforce the idea that language acquisition and development takes time and that students are not expected to be perfect in the beginning stages.
Using Krashen's Theory to Create an Effective and Productive Classroom Environment
Overall, Krashen’s theory provides reinforcement for what most teachers already do in their classroom: engage students at an appropriate level and push them to acquire more knowledge. The Affective Filter Hypothesis thus provides a good starting place for teachers who are looking to refine their teaching techniques and make the classroom experience more enjoyable and productive for their students. Knowledge of the affective filter can assist teachers in heightening their students’ self confidence and motivation, thereby increasing language development, and leading to a consistently positive classroom experience for English language learners. Some photos in My Teaching Practice.... Cognitive development
Krashen (2003) claims that cognitive development, including the acquisition of concepts and facts, is more likely to occur through problem-solving than through deliberate study. It is a confusion of cause and effect to teach facts and thinking skills in order that students may then solve real problems. Instead, it is the case, Krashen says, that learning is theresult of working on real problems.Writing that synthesizes knowledge gained from various sources, incorporates personal insights, and presents these in a structured way is an excellent example of a problem-solving activity that leads to cognitive development.
Comments
Krashen's theory of cognitive development is based in the holistic paradigm. This paradigm has at its core the belief that teaching is most effective when it engages students in authentic, complex tasks rather than discrete skill-building. The holistic approach, which became popular in the 1960s, is now held responsible by some for what they claim to be a general decline in educational standards. This reactionary movement is often referred to as Back to Basics.miércoles, 16 de noviembre de 2011

Should I become a Teacher?
First of all we as a teachers doubt organize all our things: time-structure or lesson plan- journal- prepare a material - plan B- organize my personal time.... this is a secret of happiness in the daily routine.
Teaching Practice
The Natural Approach said about of medium when the people to improve new knowledge, all things depend of the relationships between students and teacher. The develop of skills in great part need organize in diferent times for example; the management class- warm up- pedagogy experiences - multiple intelegences otherwise many people cannot understad simple things.

Summary of Part II. Second Language Acquisition Theory
1. THE ACQUISITION-LEARNING DISCTINCTION
Exist two differences between language acquisition and language learning. All theories said about the best way for you know and learn correctly one language, in my opinion I considere that for learn one language it's necessary learn some structures but sometimes, It doesn´t matter until you internalize in your brain the simply grammar or cultural that is require for to undersatand language. While language acquisition depend of a deeply study organize and high structured.
2. THE NATURAL ORDER HYPOTHESI
I like said that: the language acqusition is predictable... In my case in this moment I'm working in the school, some cases present in one day for example: when I beginnig the class about 7:00 o cloc'k I continue with warm up, pre- teaching: I prepare my class with children and share previous experiences about the them they organize material or english review guide, some students can't understand for example the instructions becouse "they don't pay attention". Finally pos-teaching I applied my little evaluation with two or three questions is the most important for them. For that reason I'm agree isn' it?
3. THE MONITOR HYPOTHESIS
Theory said: "initiates our utterances in a second language and is responsible for our fluency," of course, I don't speak perfect second language while I don't know deeply my form to speak the sounds the phonetics and phonology studies.
Summary of Part I. Introduction: The Relationship of Theory to Practice
In deciding how to develop language teaching methods and materials, one can take three approaches: make use of second language acquisition theory, make use of applied linguistics research, and make use of ideas and intuition from experience. These approaches should in fact support each other and lead to common conclusions. This book incorporates all three approaches, with a hope of reintroducing theory to language teachers. While "most current theory may still not be the final word on second language acquisition," it is hoped that teachers will use the ideas in this book as another source alongside of their classroom and language-learning experiences.
